If you are finding a set of standards about a quality management system for car, it is IATF 16949:2016
On October 3rd, 2016 IATF 16949:2016 was published by the IATF and supersedes and replaces the current ISO/TS 16949, defining the requirements of a quality management system for organizations in the automotive industry.

IATF 16949:2016 is applied to organizations who manufacture and provide such following items: parts or materials, heat treatment, coating, plating or surface treatment, or other products specified by the customer. In principle, this standard is applicable to every detail “on car – on road”.
OBJECTIVES OF IATF 16949:2016
IATF 16949:2016 aims to develop a quality management system toward the continuous improvement which emphasizes on error prevention, reduces movement and lower the cost and waste in supply chain.
IATF 16949:2016 along with specified requirement of customer forms a basic specification for quality management system for enterprise desired.
This technical standard wishes to eliminate overlapping assessments and provide a common approach in developing quality management systems for the automotive industry and providing products for the automotive industry.
- TIME REQUIREMENT
- ISO/TS 16949 expires on Sep 14th, 2018
- All audits compliant with ISO/TS 16949 (IA, SA, RC, transfer) are not allowed to conduct after Oct 01, 2017.
- Transforming audit can be conducted from Jan 01, 2017.
- UPDATED REQUIREMENTS
- New rules of 5th edition take effective from Jan 01, 2017.
- Including all accessory part.
- Audit scope of manufacturing site shall include customer not required IATF ( or ISO/TS).
- Contract between Certification Bodies and customers have to add clause allowing contract extension until completion of requirements toward new CB.
- Customers are required to provide information on the number of personnel at the main facility and the locations supporting the assessment planning process (5.7.1).
- Withdrawal rules allow for evaluation when Major arrives.
- The remaining provisions do not change

III. PREPARATION STEPS
1.Available of ISO 9001:2015 và IATF 16949.
2.Pre-audit compliant with IATF 16949
3.Assess systematic GAP comparing to IATF 16949 for all site.
- Make a detailed transition plan, including action – timeline – person in charge and method.
- Monitor & update progress.
- Regular interaction with CB.
- Internal audit in accordance with IATF 16949 & correct nonconformity findings.
- Take leadership review in accordance with IATF 16949.
- Contact the CB as soon as possible to determine the appropriate conversion rating.
- Risk aversion if any nonconformities arise
- Leave time for the CB in the arrangement
- Avoid interruptions of time
